In the beginning :), Shows this week and beyond!

Greetings one and all!

We hope you are staying safe and warm in this crazy doesn't know if its snowing, raining or just freaking freezing weather!

A little history for those of you who don't know!  Hot Metal Hardware was founded a little over 4 years ago by 14 rough and tumble gender queer folks from Pittsburgh  out looking to create some radical space and have a little fun entertaining folks from Pittsburgh and beyond. As you'll see below- we 'became'  to represent Pittsburgh  at IDKE XII We started out as very focused on the art of Drag King-ing and have very quickly expanded to embrace all forms of gender performance included but not limited to Drag King, Femme, Burlesque, Boilesque, Drag Queen, Faux Queen and more!  Our members are encouraged to reach out and explore any and all part of their gender performance as and when they desire to do so. We have some folks that do a little of all of the above. We are an ever growing and changing family of queer and ally performers who do their best to support each other and the performance community at large. You can catch us the third Friday of every month at Cattivo lounge and sometimes some of us throughout the month- 'cos damn we love to perform..so keep checking back for updates!!

Here is to our beginnings:

In August of 2010, an unlikely little bunch of genderqueer performers and allies in and around the Pittsburgh area came together with the common goal of traveling to Baltimore, MD for what they feared at the time could potentially be the last International Drag King community Extravaganza (IDKE XII).

As it turned out, there were some members of the local community that seemed eager for what they had to offer, which initially entailed queer women and ftms performing as drag kings. They managed to raise just under $3,000 in six weeks by producing two shows, and performing their acts of gender illusion for tips on the weekend.

It wasn't until this unlikely little bunch of genderqueer performers and allies were turning in their press information for the program that they realized they must name themselves. Many different names were tempting. After much thought and deliberation the troupe decided they wanted a name which was both intentionally specific to Pittsburgh, and ambiguous in terms of gender. Finally, after much ado, Hot Metal Hardware was born. Their presence at IDKE was strongly felt, and their performance was widely appreciated.

During the initial fundraising, HMH began producing a monthly show at HMH’s home base AKA Cattivo Bar. It didn’t take long before all members were producing shows and rotating equally between most roles of production from stage manager, emcee, performer, and producer. After that came the introduction of new members, and loss of old members. Finally, HMH decided to write bylaws to govern the somewhat fluid body of dynamic performers. With that came the writing of this brief history of Hot Metal Hardware, a gender performance troupe in Pittsburgh, PA since 2010.

Founding Hot Metal Hardware Members: Maycum Dizzy, Chance Encounters, JJ Cox, , Orion Blaze Browne, Dylan Dickhersoon, Zak Havok, Christopher Crash, Shane FulDesires, J.K. Weezey, Evan Danger/Trista Von Tease, Josh Long, Lyndsey Sickler

This months Raffle with Be for QUEST - PGH Queer Leather club!

It is Q.U.E.S.T.’s mission, and our dream, to help build the Leather community we would like to see in our city. It is our hope to educate and inspire, to support and comfort, and to lend aid to our fellow wanderers along the Queer Leather Path. We wish to build family and establish bonds with other organizations that feel as we do. Our work in promoting, volunteering at, and raising funds for the charitable organizations that speak to our hearts as Leather persons is of utmost importance to us. In short, we have a sincere desire to bring together the amazing queer leather family we’ve found and to seek out others who would like to join us in building a better Leather world.
